The Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber Resort

The last time I visited Hawaii I stayed with a friend in Kaneohe. So, my first time staying at a hotel in Hawaii was here, at the Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber Resort. And from first blush to checkout, I was not disappointed with it in the least. A spectacular view of Waikiki Beach certainly didn’t hurt, though.
Knowing that I was on a sponsored trip by the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau, the staff greeted my warmly during check-in. They also presented me with a clean and comfortable room, exactly what I’ve come to expect from any Holiday Inn property. So, while it may be a chain hotel and not overly lavish, it was exactly what I was looking for on a trip to Waikiki.
The Beachcomber is a simple walk across the street from the beach, making it a very convenient option for all kinds of activities. And if shopping is on the day’s itinerary, there’s plenty of that around, too, with all of the shops up and down Kalakaua Ave. and at the nearby International Marketplace.
The same is also true for many of the restaurants in the area. I ate at several different places while staying on Waikiki, since the Beachcomber did not offer room service. Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville was the nearest option, just off the Holiday Inn’s lobby, but unaffiliated with the hotel. Nonetheless, it presented a convenient and affordable option, since a 15% discount on breakfast and lunch bills were offered during my stay by presenting a hotel room key for verification.

Overall, I liked staying at the Holiday Inn Beachcomber, but I would be remiss if I did not mention something that bothered me during my stay. It is a minor issue – the hotel’s balconies. While they offer absolutely stunning views of Waikiki Beach and Kalakaua Avenue, they are not in the least bit private; I could see six other balconies from mine. Since I was not on a romantic getaway, it was not a huge issue for me, but I enjoy my personal privacy and would have preferred to relax without someone else looking over at me.
I really enjoyed the time I spent at the Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber Resort, all small complaints aside. It is a fanstastic property in a great location along Waikiki Beach and definitely made a good first impression on my trip to Oahu. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, convenient and affordable option for their vacation to Waikiki Beach.
